    Summary of the research paper:

    A 6 page paper. Many high schools include JROTC Programs and they have been able to attribute various successes to these programs. The programs enhance self-esteem and self-confidence and they train students in leadership and problem solving. While students with learning disabilities have been successful in these programs, this researcher could not find any research that addressed the mentally challenged student. This paper presents a research study proposal that focuses on how this program might help mentally challenged students. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

These programs have been successful with many types of students. They enhance self-esteem and self-confidence. They train students in leadership and problem solving. And, in some cases, cadets  increase their academic achievement. JROTC programs do accept students with learning disabilities but a program that accepts the mentally challenged could not be found. This paper presents a research  study proposal that focuses on how this program might help mentally challenged students. Definitions and Background. Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC). This is a military program offered in high  schools. The program teachers a multitude of skills to students, including American history, the Constitution, technology, how government works, leadership, how to study effectively, how to develop effective habits, and  job interviewing, The program trains high school students develop leadership skills, such as motivation, planning, and making decisions. It provides structure and direction. Participating in the high school JROTC program  does not require students to enter military services after high school (DAllaird, 2012). Each branch of the military has JROTC programs. That would be the Army, Air Force, Marines, and  Navy. Research Topic As the literature will demonstrate, JROTC has many benefits for participants ranging from personal to academic to discipline. The topic to be researched is the impact JROTC  would have on students who are mentally challenged. The benefits for other students have been many, including higher academic achievement, improved interpersonal relations, higher self-esteem and greater self-confidence. The question  is: Would participation in JROTC programs improve the self-esteem of mentally challenged students? An accompanying question would be: Would participation in JROTC programs help mentally challenged students follow a
