Bronx. It is, in many ways, a painful look at what some children must endure just to survive and also a look at some of the most inspiring people one  may ever know. It is a truthful and honest look at realities that most of us assume are non-existent in such an "enlightened" country. In the following paper we examine  this place by first examining the needs of the community and then move on to examining two individuals who are truly making a difference. Those people are Aida Rosa and  Mother Martha Overall. After discussing the contributions of these two women we present a problem seen in the inner city education presented by Kozol and then provide a possible solution.  The Community The needs of this particular community, Mott Haven, are extensive. These individuals are incredibly poor, they live in an environment that has all but been utilized as  a toxic dumping ground for the surrounding region, and they are easily the very last people to see any funding for education or health concerns. Bearing these simple realities in  mind, and understanding that there are many more conditions that prove dangerous to the welfare of the people within the community such as drug abuse and violence, we can readily  see that the children bear the brunt of the negativity that exists. According to Kozol most of these children have never had a hearing or an eye exam. They  are living in an environment that is clearly not conducive to positive growth and education. They are children who suffer greatly from asthma and other health conditions. They are children  who fall into a reality where only 65 out of a thousand will actually graduate from school and have a possibility of getting ahead.
