    result, that area has become the center of much controversy as law makers, residents and community leaders debate how to solve the problems this neighborhood brings to the greater Los  Angeles community. In an effort to respond to the immediate needs of Skid Row residents, a number of charitable networks have been established with the intent of providing resources,  skills, and basic necessities to the people who so desperately need them. As the population of Los Angeles continues to  grow, so too does the Skid Row population, and homelessness is now rampant in the area as are the problems which are associated with homelessness. Skid Row is almost  a world unto itself, and certainly a place most would prefer not to be. It is therefore important to understand the scope of the problem and to consider how  networks unite to support and deal with the issues which plague this neighborhood. The Skid Row Area In Los Angeles  Most people know of Skid Row in Los Angeles because of its reputation - a reputation which isnt good. Skid Row is renowned for its homeless, it violence, it  gangs and as the home to businesses which are plagued with a host of problems indigenous to the area. But Skid Row wasnt always the neighborhood it is now,  and although it has always been a working mans area, it wasnt always associated with the violence and drug-related issues which it now contends with. In the  early days, it was primarily home to the down and out, many of them alcoholics. It was not particularly violent. But that changed with the onset of crack cocaine, and
