    reflect different levels of power and mastery when it comes to the management of an organisation. The role of organisational learning has been praised as a paradigm that  will aid a company achieved growth with increased flexibility to meet the needs of a dynamic environment. In order to consider the role that power and mastery may play in  this model the first stage is to consider what is meant by a learning organisation and the features or characteristic which accompany this title. It is only when the paradigm  is understood that leadership and mastery withies that paradigm may be considered with full understanding. Peter Senge is an advocate of the idea  of a learning organisation (Mahoney, 1997). He recognises the need for change in similar terms, and describes a learning organisation as one which : "1 ... continually expand their capacity  to create the results they truly desire; 2 ... continually learn how to learn together; 3 ... share common goals that are larger than individual goals; 4 ... function  together in extraordinary ways, complementing each others strengths [and] compensating each others limitations as part of a great team " (Senge,  quoted in Dervitsiotis, 1998) A learning organisation is one which is adaptable and learns from  circumstances in order to control them. Senge takes this further by defining the characteristics that an organisation should have separately. It is only with this type of attitude and  culture that a organisation can change and adapt as the environment it operates in changes.
