There are numerous substances in the society that are also drugs but are not necessarily labeled as such. For example, caffeine is a drug and aspirin in a drug but  they are not commonly referred to as drugs and as such are generally seen as beneficial. Interestingly enough, "Although nonprescription medications such as aspirin kill thousands of people every year,  not a single death has ever been attributed to a cannabis overdose" (Breen 82). This whole label of "drug" has caused much of the controversy and struggles concerning marijuana, especially  when it comes to using marijuana as a medicinal tool. There is a great deal of research which indicates that marijuana is a very useful medical "drug", and also a  lack of valid substantiated truths concerning its dangers. The following paper examines and supports the students thesis: "Of all the negative consequences of prohibition, none is as tragic as the  denial of medicinal cannabis to the tens of thousands of patients who could benefit from its therapeutic use." Legalizing Marijuana for Medicinal Purposes  One of the most important issues regarding the legalization of medical marijuana concerns its proposed dangers. Many people argue that it is a dangerous drug, it causes mental problems,  it can lead to lung problems, and that legalizing it for medicinal purposes will only encourage the youth of the nation to obtain it and smoke it. Some of these  arguments, or perhaps even all of them and more, may well possess some truth but the real truth is that this sort of possibility, in terms of the dangers of  a drug, have never stopped the nation from producing, selling, and making money off of drugs that have been proven to be far more dangerous than marijuana.
