    the United States to be struck with this deadly disease, the 33-year old woman is now bedridden and must be fed through tubes. Doctors think she got the disease  due to the fact that her family lived in England and only moved to the United States within the last ten years. This disease for which there is  no known cure can apparently be in the human body for up to forty years without manifesting itself. But how is it that a person can be exposed to  a disease that is considered so deadly and yet not show any symptoms of it for years? And then when the symptoms do show up, they are quite alarming  such as aggressive behavior, biting, climbing on furniture, shaking of the extremities, and violent mood swings. MORE ABOUT THE STUDIES OF MAD COW DISEASE Bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or  BSE, also known as Mad Cow Disease, was "first diagnosed in 1986 in the United Kingdom" (NEHA, 2002, 51). This strange and deadly malady causes parts of the brain  tissue to become spongelike. This disease is closely related to other TSE diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), and another type of CJD, variant CJD (vCJD). Mad Cow Disease  is spread when cows and other ruminants are fed protein of other mammals. Many cattle are fed ground up carcasses of cattle as a protein, and this has been  known to spread the disease. It is this cannibalistic type behavior that has been known to cause variants of the disease that has even been discovered on native islands  that used to regularly practice cannibalism. Feeding the carcasses of sheep to cattle is another practice, and sheep are also a known harbinger of the disease. According to Richard
