By analyzing any two particular pieces, one can easily ascertain the connection between life, liberty and equality to all as they inherently relate to the black culture.  Casting such a light allows the author to establish her own attitude as one that mirrors her quest for complex literal and social indications in the face of racial intolerance.  "Angelou is a sister- friend, who is acting as a citadel of our people. She says all the things we would say if we only knew how .  . . if we could, if we dared" (Phillip, 1995, p. PG). Incredibly detailed descriptions, both true to life and in her imaginary world, are rife with clarity when  connected to the authors simple yet complex distinction. In utilizing the significance Angelou attaches to racial equity, it is clear the writers intent: to demonstrate the manner by which  literature and ones life experiences are infinitely intertwined, an objective that has earned her the voice of this generation. "Within strictly legal confines, such an ability is the essence  of the American myth of success, and undoubtedly, at least part of the appeal of Caged Bird is that it corresponds both to this definition of black heroism and to  the outline of a typical success story" (Walker, 1995, p. 91). Angelou is as simple as she is complex.
