    its industry highlights consumers willingness to pay higher prices for environmentally-conscious products where they can perceive higher total value in those products. No company and no product can gain  competitive advantage in its industry if the product or service is not readily available. To make the product or service available to a wide range of customers, the organization  must have sufficient resources - not only financial resources, but also in terms of labor, capacity, distribution and marketing. Porters Five Forces Analysis  Porter determined that there are five determinants of long-term industry profitability. Of course organizations must effectively compete within their specific industries, and so it is necessary to evaluate the  industry as well as lay a strategy for the specific organization. These five determinants of long-term profitability include rivalry between competitors; threat of new entrants; threat of substitute products  or services; bargaining power of suppliers; and bargaining power of buyers. Rivalry Among Firms Rivalry on the part of Unilever and Colgate-Palmolive may  be strong, but any rivalry that exists cannot affect Method too much other than in securing retailer shelf space. The industrys leading firms may be taking greater note of  Method at present, but as the case notes, in 2006 Methods "total annual sales were approximately 10% of Procter & Gambles sales in dish detergent alone" (Home As Corporate Strategy,  n.d.). Though rivalry is intense in the soap and cleaning product industry among the top players, a common problem among industry leaders is that they fail to pay enough  attention to new entrants such as Method. As they concentrate more on each other, Method is able to gain greater market share. Power of Buyers
