numerous works of literature which expressed the fears and changes that were taking place in the world. As is often the case with times of change, literature, for example, provides
us with a look at the changes. In this particular case it can perhaps be argued that like films, literature was often found to be nothing more than entertainment for
the masses as they tried to deal with serious issues in the real world. Bearing that in mind we present an examination of January, 1945 by looking at news and
other information which was present during that particular month and year. January, 1945 In our first examination of January, 1945 we look at an article from Life Magazine,
as analyzed in an examination of Simon Wiesenthal who was a Nazi hunter. In January of 1945 Life published photos of "three German soldiers shot by their American captors during
the Battle of the Bulge" (Weber; Stimely). This offers us a very powerful understanding of the times and the emotions involved during the time period. It was a time when
the concentration camps were funnily uncovered and the brutality of the Nazis was leading everyone to a state of emotional frenzy, confusion, anger, and hatred. Perhaps at no other time
have we seen openly honest pictures of Americans killing men in such a manner as we did during the times surrounding WWII. It was, in essence, a time of fear
and confusion and anger as the world tried to make sense of what had happened and what was to happen. And, although the article by Weber and Stimely appears to
be one that wishes to argue that horrific acts were not played out by Nazis, history tells us otherwise. This also provides us with valuable information about the time period,
