Contends that it is the responsibility of the U.S., however, to continue to act as a world peace keeper. Bibliography lists  5 sources. Only  casual observation can reveal that there are distinct differences between the traditional U.S. military role of national defense and that of international peacekeeping. While national defense is an inherent  expectation for any military, it seems that peacekeeping missions only fall to the strongest of the worlds powers. There are a number of implications of the U.S. military engaging  in peacekeeping activities abroad, however. These implications call for clearly identifiable responsibilities and limitations, responsibilities and limitations which have obviously played an important historical role in protecting U.S. interest  both at home and abroad and will inevitably do so in our future as well. Our military role in regard to national defense  and peacekeeping alike relates directly to our power as a nation. Power in the United States consists of numerous varied aspects. In most cases when one considers the  concept of power they do so in relation to military might and political influence. There are other aspects of power as well, however.
