    not want to leave their pets and put them in doggy daycare or specialty boarding facilities, a trend in hospitalization is to at least allow pet visitation. Not all hospitals  agree. Hawley (1998) explains that while many requests for visitation were turned down in the past, one hospital heard about pet therapy at other facilities and took a look at  the phenomenon. They found that studies show, patient care improves when they are allowed to see their house pets (1998). Such visits provide a sense of normalcy and also relieves  stress to an extent (1998). There is also research on the subject that suggests petting a dog lowers blood pressure and this is common knowledge today. In fact, there  is a wide body of literature on the therapeutic benefits of pets (Hooker, Freeman, Holbrook & Stewart, 2002). Still, many hospitals have rules about a lot of things. Few  dogs are allowed on premises in many facilities. When hospitals prohibit a patient from visiting with their pet, one can understand the anxiety that might follow. The patient should  discuss the situation with a social worker. What can be done to allow a pet into the facility? It would be difficult to sneak a dog into the hospital unless  it is very small. Also, no staff member would allow it as they would put their job at risk. It would also be unethical. Hence, the only course of  action is to negotiate and bargain with officials. A case study is presented in order to evaluate several courses of action one can take when negotiating pet visitation in the  hospital setting. II.
