    and one in Germany. The New Acme facility in the UK plant where there is a manufacturing plant which also acts as a sales centre. The facility is one where  there are low inputs of labour for many functions that are performed in a totally automated manner and for others there is the need of skilled labour. This leads to  a flexible manufacturing process. The facility is able to draw together different part of the operation into an holistic whole, where there is harmony between marketing and sale, production,  human resources and research and development. This is a model many companies seek to achieve with the reduction of barriers to communication and increasing the level of responsibility that the  staff feel for the entire process rather than only very specific and limited production aspects, thus there was ownership of the process by the staff. The culture is one  of teamwork, where there is cooperation rather than conflict and where there is no need for unions. Although this starts to sound similar to the Japanese methods this was  not a Japanese culture. The aim was a purposeful recruitment of youthful employees to establish the culture has been successful so that older employees, who have developed in different cutes  can now be brought in. The key is the approach that is taken, using teams and teamwork, but still seeing employees as individuals. The approach is in line with  the human relations school of thought. The human relations school approach to management is based on the paradigm of social man, rather than economic man. The school of thought  came about as a result of observances of human behaviour ad the shortcomings of scientific management. In looking at why this management style is so effective we need to consider
