    single families that struggle to survive and it is blamed for the increasingly violent and delinquent behavior of children. In many ways it seems that most people believe that it  is a reflection of the society and that nothing like this has happened in the history of mankind. As such the society seems intent on changing the ease with which  people gain divorces in order to repair damage to the society. In truth, however, forcing people to remain married is not an answer for divorce has always been a reality  and it is a norm, a real norm, of society. As such we cannot put societys norms, or ideal norms, on the family and truly believe that this will make  needed changes in the society as a whole. Divorce and Society When asked if we, as Americans, should worry about the high divorce rate in the country the  answer is yes. But, we should also be concerned about our society as a whole and the message that the society is putting out there that would cause family structures  to weaken. The divorce rate is likely only a symptom of bigger problems. We cannot blame divorce on delinquent behavior, especially when so many single parent families do just fine  in raising children. And, we cannot assume that the divorce rate today, though statistically higher than in the past, is a new thing. In the past many conditions have led  to divorce as well as single parent families. In all honesty, one hundred years ago divorce was a possibility and the chances of one parent dying through more dangerous conditions  that we experience today was a very powerful reality that left many families with one parent. In light of these facts we can begin to see that our ideal norms
