in the incidence of diabetes mellitus, which is associated with the development of numerous chronic diseases that affect longevity and quality of life. The negative consequences that can result from
diabetes can be addressed by management strategies that aid clients in maintaining a blood glucose level that falls within the normal range. To achieve this goal requires lifestyle behavior changes,
as well as pharmaceutical intervention. The purpose of the proposed project is to investigate relevant literature in order to discern how nurse practitioner (NP) management of type 2 diabetes mellitus
can aid clients in achieving and maintaining a normal blood glucose level. Diabetes is a disease characterized by high blood glucose, which results
from problems associated with the production of insulin, the action of insulin in the body or both of these conditions (Caspersen, et al, 2012). The incidence of type 2 diabetes
among Americans is complicated by the fact that the percentage of older adults is rising. The prevalence of diabetes among older adults is predicted to go from 14 to 33
percent by 2050 (Caspersen, et al, 2012). Minority populations are severely affected by type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The problem of T2DM has also become prevalent among children and adolescents.
It pervades all age groups and all ethnicities, regardless of socioeconomic status. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disorders has indicated that there are 24 million
