INTRODUCTION  Cognition refers to the process of knowing, which applies to a combination of judgment and awareness; indeed, this aspect is most definitely associate with  ecological concern, inasmuch as memory distinctly addresses the spatial and temporal elements of human existence. When discussing the aspects of mood-dependent memory and olfactory memory as they relate to  recollection, the student will want to make the association between external and internal stimuli as they relate to the process of recall. II. MOOD-DEPENDENT MEMORY While external memory cues  possess significant influence upon recall, internal cues such as moods and emotions also play an integral role in the manner by which humans remember events from the past. The  elements of encoding, storage and retrieval are readily influenced by such things as ones level of motivation or alertness (Searleman & Hermann, 1994), with research findings indicating that mood dependent  conditions occur only when were inadequate, forcing internal cues to override any external participation. A case study tested the hypothesis of two separated mood dimensions - arousal and pleasantness  - as they related to mood-dependent memory (MDM), having respondents speak words as they listened to certain tracks of mood music. Upon listening to another set of mood music  choices, they were asked to recall these words. What was determined was that "changing only the dimension of mood pleasantness from generation to recall decreased memory whether the intended
