PREPARING FOR AN ORAL PRESENTATION  Two of the main things to remember in preparing for an oral presentation are that you should research your subject so that you know as much as possible about it  and that you should know your audience as well as you know your subject. By knowing your audience this means that you should know why they are there, what  their level of knowledge is on the subject upon which you will be speaking and the makeup of the group; in other words will it be male, female, adults, children,  or a mixture of all of these? This can make a difference in how you deliver the presentation. Another important factor in preparing for the presentation is to study  the layout of the room in which you will be speaking. While this is not always possible, in most cases you can get a diagram of where everything is  in relation to the audience seating. This can be important, especially in ensuring that the proper equipment will be there such as slide projectors, view graphs, overhead projectors, or  whatever else you might need. Consider too how long the oral presentation is going to be; will you need to give the audience a break, and will you want  to provide coffee and snacks for them?
