problematic areas in hopes of implementing changes to make the office environment a more positive experience for the employees and the company as well. The Need for Change  One area in which RadioShack Corporation wishes to implement change is in the use of team leadership. As firms experience ever-increasing pressure to  innovate and improve their work processes, many are responding by creating organizational structures that promote cross-functional and cross-boundary communication, coordination, and collaboration. Because most firms expect to use teams  to support future procurement and sourcing decision making, it is important to understand how to best manage the cross-functional sourcing team process. In most cases, however, researchers who study  teams rarely reach the same conclusions about the factors affecting team success. There is one variable, that most researchers seem to agree on consistently, which affects team success -  the effectiveness of the formal team leader (Trent 1996). Most employees, even the freedom-loving employees at RadioShack Corporation, feel that they  enjoy greater participation with the tougher boss than with the more democratic boss. They felt that working for a tougher boss enabled them to get the job done better,  and it was found they tend to like the boss better as well (Pearce 1999). Implementing the Necessary Changes In order to facilitate this change, RadioShack Corporation held a  workshop to initiate their managers in the methods of team leadership. The management staff attending could focus on teamwork, communication, and setting a vision for the company, or in  other words, standing back and seeing the "big picture". In order to achieve this, the workshop venue needed to be without the usual distractions present at the workplace.
