    UPS workers are in fact minorities in terms of their ethnicity or race. Further, one fifth are female. Fortune magazine did dub the company the best to work for if  in fact one belongs to a minority group. One question that might crop up goes to which roles these minorities possess in the company. Sure, many firms have some  diversity in the workplace, but if racial minorities and women are on the bottom rungs of the corporate hierarchy, it really says little about the companys efforts to level the  playing field. It should be noted that at UPS, many of the minorities are allowed to rise to the higher echelons of the company hierarchy. First, before delving into the  case study specifically, diversity in the workplace should be addressed as a unique topic. What is diversity? The United States of America has become increasingly diverse in terms of ethnicity  and race. This means that no longer is the white man average. Rather, people work with individuals who are affiliated with various religions, races and ethnicities and to some extent,  one might say that it has affected normative behavior, values and attitudes within the confines of an organization. For example, a firm might have in the past taken a hard  line against absences, but with so many religious holidays amongst various groups, the organization must get used to some employees missing on certain days. Diversity in general promotes tolerance and  acceptance. At the same time, firms must address issues of prejudice within the work force while increasing the variety of peoples who work at their facilities. UPS has seemingly does  this in an admirable way. According to the case study, a quarter of management is minority based and one quarter includes women. This seems to suggest that throughout the company,
