    There are increasing pressures in healthcare, the needs to use limited resources to create value and control costs and to serve the community as well as to create profit1.  A p-process that has been gaining increased attention is that of the service one approach (Gee, 2006). This has potential benefits, but the model needs to be concerned in terms  of its viability. 2. SWOT Analysis There are a number of strengths to the adoption of a service line approach; this facilitates the segregation of the different major areas  of treatment to allow a greater concentration on the treatment services. The oncology department has a wide variety of patients to treat, by focusing a service line there is a  single line created which incorporate all elements of the department from marketing and administration though to treatment and after care. A single line manager may be appointed to create integration,  overcoming the potential fragmented nature of the traditional departmental hierarchy. This has potential cost advantages, giving greater control over budgets and costs, increased transparency over responsibility.  There are some weaknesses, change of this nature will require a clear understanding of the process and a framework including a definition of each line,  many hospitals appear to get stuck at this stage due to the difficulty in untangling the traditional approach (Gee, 2006). The approach has the potential to create resistance to change  and a culture shock, the separation of the differing areas of treatment may also create complexities where there are individuals that require services from more than a single line, in  terms of diagnosis there may also be weaknesses where patients may need to move lines or the causes are unknown.
