    today. WHAT IS OVERCRIMINALIZATION? The fact is that criminal acts and other societal problems are worsening in the United States. This results in what is known as overcriminalization  or that crime is growing at a rate greater than the speed than the state and its agencies are able to solve it. This factor of overcriminalization is a  serious one, one that society is attempting, mostly in vain, to catch up with and even to overtake. As pointed out by Bunker 8 (2002, PG), one must remember  that the definitions used here are important. "The offender, it has to be remembered, is not necessarily an individual but may be a corporation a political group or other  organization. Likewise victims may be chosen as individuals or as members of groups defined in various ways. They may or may not be aware of their victimization or have accurate  information concerning its source" (Bunker 8, 2002, PG). Likewise, society tends to force its own labels on things such as crime. Crime can be myriad things to myriad people.  In this way it is difficult, to be sure, to get one exact definition of what criminalization might be, but the fact remains that the United States has a  faster growing crime problem than it does have ways to solve them. WHY IS THERE SO MUCH CRIME? Racism and race relations augment a large amount of  the criminal activity present in the United States. From where do such harmful and often distorted images originate, especially within a society that is supposed to remain impartial?  If one considers the fact that each person is a product of his or her own environment, it is easy to see that the influence of intolerant surroundings is critical
