Enterprise resource planning is a  software package that serves to assist companies in running and computerizing a business. ERP packages can include such things as programs for "finance, human resources, manufacturing, logistics and supply-chain  management" (McCann 2000, 50). The decision to adopt an enterprise resource planning software program is a decision that many companies have adopted over the last few years.  The fact of the matter is, Enterprise Resource Planning is almost indispensable in this world of fast-paced high-tech computer sales and businesses. With companies and their branches located all  over the nation or indeed, all over the globe, it is necessary to have a reliable type of computer package that can make it all link and flow smoothly into  one easily defined package. This is where ERP comes in. By installing an ERP program it can link the many often disconnected systems that a company needs to have  available while at the same time they are located all over the country. Such things as the "supply chain, order-taking, manufacturing, purchasing and customer care" (Fitzgerald 1999,  SR1), along with e-commerce. The ERP system is what allows the computer users in a given company to have access to the information from all parts of the company.  This allows for speed and efficiency in allowing them to verify the standing of tasks at any time (Fitzgerald 1999). SOME COMPANIES THAT USE ERP One company  in California that has benefited greatly from their ERP package is the 950 employee firm of Alcone Marketing Group, a marketing and promotions company.
