    was attended by the chiefs and members of Iraqi, Lebanese, Syrian, Trans-Jordanian and Egyptian delegations. The purpose was to "strengthen and consolidate the ties which bind all Arab countries and  to direct them toward the welfare of the Arab world, to improve its conditions, insure its future, and realize its hopes and aspiration, and in response to Arab public opinion  in all Arab countries" (League of Arab States, Main Documents, nd). The Arab League is "in the form of a Preliminary Committee of the General Arab Conferences" (League of  Arab States, Main Documents, nd). The conference was held in Alexandria between September 25, 1944 and October 7, 1944. The delegates drew up a Charter during these days. The  catalyst for the foundation of the League was to public opinion about Arab countries. There were seven original Arab states that signed the Charter, which "explicitly asserted that the  setting up of the League was meant to carry out the following: Serve the common good of all Arab countries, Ensure better conditions for all Arab countries, guarantee the future  of all Arab countries and fulfill the hopes and expectations of all Arab countries" (League of Arab States, Foundation, nd). The original countries founding the League are: Jordan, Syria, Saudi  Arabia, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen and Egypt (League of Arab States, Foundation, nd). The Arab League states its objectives as: "The League is a national and regional organization that seeks to  promote closer ties among member-states and co-ordinate their policies and their economic, cultural, and security plans with a view to developing collective co-operation, protecting national security and maintaining the independence  and sovereignty of member-states; thereby enhancing the potential for joint Arab action in all fields" (League of Arab States, Foundation, nd).
