is easily portrayed on television shows and in films. Epileptics are supposed to avoid video games for example because the lights can trigger an episode, but that is really only  one type of epilepsy stemming from one cause. There is no typical epileptic. What is epilepsy exactly? Epilepsy is a disorder that causes seizures whenever brain waves go awry  (Reaney PG). While that may seem like a simple explanation, the problem is more complex. People suffer with it to various degrees. Mild forms of the condition are treated with  drugs but in more serious cases the part of the brain where the seizures originate has to be removed (PG). Further, some epileptics, even those with good control, may be  at risk of premature death ("Epileptics" 59). There is in fact a syndrome called Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) (59). The overall mortality rate of epileptics is two to  three times that of the general populous anyway (59). Because of the risk of death, one can say that it is one of the most serious brain abnormality around.  First, what causes epilepsy? During a seizure, a breakdown in the systems which maintains the balance of electrical activity in the brain occurs and this results in electrical  discharges in the brain, a condition that is not normal ("epilepsy.com" PG) . During most seizures, abnormal cells create changes in neighboring cells, thus activating an entire group of  cells simultaneously (PG). The relationship between electrical discharges creates a sort of "storm" of electrical activity within the brain (PG). These sequence of events causes the seizures which  characterize epilepsy. Although someone may have the condition, it sometimes takes years before an individual experiences a first seizure (PG). It is thought that the process that leads
