    can be somewhat intricate in providing details. While broadcast writing does center on the ability to convey a thought, it also demands the use of captivating words and terminology to  get someone to stop what they are doing and listen. While some people read the newspaper while driving, or eating, or doing something else, by and large most people  are concentrating on the article. They often sit and do nothing else but read the printed words. They concentrate and while sometimes something will take their concentration away, and they  may put the paper down for a minute, while listening to the radio, a minutes time of distraction can cause someone to miss a part of a show, a commercial  or a public service announcement. Also, even attentive listeners to radio shows will inevitably leave, take a break, shut the radio off for a few minutes and so forth. It  is different from putting the paper down where one can pick it back up in a few minutes or a few hours. If one misses a minute of broadcast time,  it is gone forever. While people have Tivo and VCRs for their televisions, few people take the time to make audio recordings of their favorite radio shows. Thus, if they  miss something, it is missed forever. While people walk away from the radio often, that is a better reason to make broadcast copy sound good. It has to read  well, and be received by the listener in such a way that they do not get bored or distracted. A public service announcement for example must be hard hitting and  persuasive. It has to get the attention of the listener and then, shortly after beginning, it should provoke emotion and thought. It should also prompt a response. Public service announcements
