In this one would perhaps be better arguing that  she is a visual artist, much like a director in many ways. However you classify her, and her art, however, Abramovics art is clearly art that can be classed as  alternative in many ways. In the following paper we examine the woman and her art, discussing her themes and intentions and forms and approach. Marina Abramovic "Marina Abramovic,  born in 1946 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, is without question one of the seminal artists of our time. She was awarded the Golden Lion for Best Artist at the 1997 Venice  Biennale for her extraordinary video installation/performance piece Balkan Baroque" (Sean Kelly Gallery). And, her work is primarily seen throughout many exhibits around the world, indicating that there is a very  strong global and cultural quality to her art. We realize the extent of her audience when we note that, "Her work is included in many major public collections worldwide including:  Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Mus?e National dArt Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; the Van AbbeMuseum, Eindhoven; Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; Kunstmuseum Bern.  Recent solo exhibitions have included: Marina Abramovic: The Hero, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; Marking the Territory, The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; The Hunt, Center for  Contemporary Art Kitakyushu, Kitakyushu; Spirit Houses, Bourganeuf; Marina Abramovic, Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Como, and Public Body - Artist Body, Kunstverein Hannover" (Sean Kelly Gallery).
