William David Ross is one of the most noted philosophers of the Twentieth Century. Writing in Britain during the earlier half of the century, Rosss emphasis was on the defense  of ethical intuitionism. Arguing that there are certain objective ethical truths, many of the more basic of which are self evident (Gensler, 2002). The extension of Rosss argument  is that skeptical attacks on morality fail (Gensler, 2002). There are many instances in everyday life when we use Rosss philosophies. One of the most obvious uses of  these self-evident truths is the contrast which is presented between our concepts of life, death, and that state which exists after death. When  considering our own lives the first postulate is immediately acceptable as self evident. When we think of life we think of experiences. The second postulate is self evident  as well. A dead and decomposed body obviously no longer supports human experience. Thus, the third postulate is self proving as well. It is the fourth postulate  which many encounter difficulty with accepting. Scientifically, however, we know that sometimes there is experience past the physiological point of death.
