world of public relations, everything must have spin, or high visibility. Jumping onto the diversity bandwagon is politically correct, even if the company has no idea what the term  means, the student would want to say, let alone knows how to institute diversity in their work places. The local police department, in this respect, is no different. In a  recent study this year, formerly held beliefs about the benefits of hiring police officers so as to ensure a racially diverse police department were challenged and evaluated. The researchers determined  to discover if racial diversity training was mere window dressing or if it really made a difference in the overall productivity of the departments as a whole. The report consisted  of a series of informal interviews with the minority officers in various precincts. Many studies have been conducted on the issue, but few have studied the phenomenon as it applies to  a police department. However, the studies that have been conducted have all come to similar conclusions and implementations. According to Ellis Cashmores report "Behind the window dressing:  ethnic minority police perspectives on cultural diversity" as published in the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, diversity can really be said to take on many different roles.  For the chief of police, this diversity can be an advantage if examined closely. Many when they think diversity, think of the term  race, but diversity is really so much more than the color of ones skin or the culture one has grown up with. Diversity, it can be said is as individual  as the way in which one approaches problem solving. This, then, is where the astute manager can create a team of very knowledgeable and effective crime solving units and squads.
