While  violence within society may have had an impact on the nature of television news in content, the structure of television news programs may also cater to reflect the structure of  modern society. Many people within todays society live a fast-paced lifestyle and wish their television news reports to reflect this resulting in several new news formats which provide highlighted snippets  of information given within a relatively short space of time and overall has failed to give the in-depth coverage much of the content may warrant.  Recent studies have shown that 99 percent of American households own a television and most families own more than one set. In addition, it has been estimated  that television in on at least 6 hours per day in over half of those homes. Youths who graduate from high school in this day and age have viewed approximately  15,000 hours of television compared to 12,000 hours in school. Because of this high concentration of television viewing within the American population, it is a little wonder why psychologists, social  scientists, parents and educators are becoming more and more concerned about the influence television has on the lives of Americans (Vessey, Yim-Chiplis and MacKenzie, 1998). While violence within television shows  has continued to be controversial, violence within television news broadcasting has become more accepted. Regardless of the exposure to violence on television however whether or not from programmed television or  news programs, researchers have found that this has led most children to realize or fear that the "world seems like a frightening place and can lead to nightmare and sleep
