POVERTY IN INDIA Indias infant mortality rate and life expectancy illustrate the inherent battle this nation faces on a  steady basis. The entire population is expected to live no longer than approximately sixty-three years, while the infant mortality rate soars to just over sixty-three for every one thousand  live births (The World Factbook 2001). This devastating statistic reflects a nation living in abject poverty and wholly unable to find the way out. Economic help from other  nations has been beneficial to a degree, however, large populations such as what exists in India must learn how to provide for themselves if any significant amounts of people are  going to beat the terrible odds. Famine, disease and a whole host of other issues prevent many of Indias populace from living healthful, productive lives, often making death appear  to be a more humane option. Research has shown that infant mortality is primarily a socio-cultural epidemic, in that appropriate medical attention is gravely lacking in low-income and  minority communities. Genetic disturbance represents yet another population in which infant mortality is experienced, no matter the individuals ethnic or financial status. Genetically induced infant mortality is often  not detected until well into the third trimester, a point at which termination of pregnancy is both a health risk for the mother and a morally painful decision to make.  POVERTY IN NORTH KOREA While the North Korean government carefully keeps outsiders away from the countryside where the poverty stricken people are dying, there are some people
