the power plants will add to the total power available in Texas in a cost effective manner, in a way that will provide jobs and ensure the continuation of a  reliable power supply. Adding a further 9,000 megawatts of additional electrical capacity may not be needed immediately, but will be needed at some point in the future by planning ahead  there is the ability to build the power plants in a timely manner, without the need to push project schedules and at current rather than future prices. The building of  the power plants will also help the Texas economy by supporting future power needs for new businesses as well as creating more jobs in the building and running of the  power plants. The advantage in this plan is also the efficiency of the plants. There is the use of existing technology that is understood, this also means there is  the trained labour and skilled required in the region to build and operate the plants, in addition to this there have also been improvements in the technology so that the  new plants are more efficient than the older plants using the same technology. The plants are also the cheapest to build, the alternative new technology plants cost 20% more to  build that these models. With any form of energy production there are differing considerations to make; there are issues of sustainability and of pollution. In terms of the sustainability  the use of coal may be seen as a viable energy source as the US has more than 200 years worth of resources. In terms of pollutants, these are present  wherever there is the use of any carbon emitting technologies, with this plan there is also the plan to make investments worth $2 billion on emission-reducing technology.
