Giltman 5/2010 Please     Ever since the founding fathers drafted the Constitution of the United States, politicians have debated whether the position of president wields too much  power. In Articles I-III, the original framers implemented a system of checks and balances in which the three branches of government (Judicial, Executive and Legislative) each have certain powers they  can and cannot execute. Furthermore, they implemented this system of checks and balances to prevent one branch from becoming superior over the other branches by delegating and prohibiting certain tasks  to each branch of government. Nevertheless, despite this system, many people believe that the Executive branch has grown too strong over the last 200 years and the Presidents office can  use its power to modify or manipulate the other branches to carry out the agenda he or she wishes. Basically, the President serves as commander in chief of the Armed  Forces and has the power to veto laws, execute spending, declare war and states of emergency, create treaties, appoint judges, and grant pardons. Despite this authority, American presidents have exercised  their powers extremely differently over the last two and a half centuries. Some believed in a strong presidency, claiming that the Constitution was written to give them the power they
