among Chinese populations. This observation indicates the urgent need for prevention programs. The proposed study design is constructed in a manner intended to determine whether or not a media campaign  aimed at the Chinese population of Shanghai can increase the awareness of this sample group concerning the CVD risk factor of high cholesterol. The following evaluation of research literature focuses  on how each of the ten studies that profiled offers data that can be instrumental in implementing the proposed study design. Engler, et al (1992) investigated the effect that  taking a physiology course, which included information concerning the antecedents of CVD, had on the knowledge and attitudes of nursing undergraduate students. While the nursing students attitudes did not  change, their demonstrable knowledge of CVD prevention increased, including their knowledge connecting cholesterol to CVD and the need for cholesterol control as a CVD prevention intervention (Engler, et al, 1992).  This study utilized a 54-item survey that was formulated to assess both "knowledge and attitudes" on CVD prevention (Engler, et al, 1992, p. 1221). The successful use of this instrument  in evaluating knowledge gain by nursing students suggests that it is possible via such methods to ascertain increases in knowledge pertaining to topics such as cholesterols role in CVD in  specific demographic populations. Fu (2001) conducted a study in Hong that examined the increase in the incidence of CVD that occurred between 1972 and 1992 and identified CVD risk  factors in a cohort between the ages of 18-60 years of age among Hong Kong Chinese. While this evaluation addressed all CVD risk factors, it included increased cholesterol levels. While  the incidence of CVD risk factors among this Chinese population was lower than in Australia or the Peoples Republic of China, the incidence of CVD tended to increase with
