    that the educational system in this country has come under heavy crossfire in recent years and there are many reasons for concern in regards to its current state. Todays  children face many more complex issues than previous generations, and assimilating an increasingly diverse culture raises its own important issues. However, there  are certain issues which have been raised in recent times which tend to be specific to this generation and which have evident pros and cons. Therefore, determining an opinion  on these subjects requires some investigation in order to make informed decisions. Pros and Cons of Prayer in School School  prayer is perhaps one of the most controversial topics in education today (Separation of Church and State, 2002). However, it is the first amendment which sets the precedent in  terms of what is and is not permitted in schools and it in fact mandates the neutrality of the government (Separation of Church and State, 2002). In fact, in  1962 the decision in Engle v. Vitale further supported the position set forth by the Constitution when it banned prayer from public schools (Separation of Church and State, 2002).  In other words, the first amendment allows for prayer in school so long as educators and administrators do not lead the  children in prayer or force them to pray in a certain way (Separation of Church and State, 2002). "However, all children have the right to pray voluntarily before, during,  or after school, and nonreligious children do not have to pray at all" (Separation of Church and State, 2002). There
