If the paper in question is used merely as a source of guidance to help the student write his or her own  paper - the same way magazine articles and other resources are used and appropriately attributed to the actual writer - then there is no question of ethical behavior. All  good researchers amass a number of written resources in order to compile an equitable amount of verifiable information so their papers are well rounded and accurate. However, when the  only thought in the students mind is to pay for (or oftentimes download for free) a paper that was written by someone else and then turn it in as the  students own work, this ethical breach is known as plagiarism. When the student examines the temptation to resort to plagiarism - which is "no less a moral offense than would  the theft of a car, money, or jewels would be" (Petress, 2003, p. 624) - when there are myriad resources available to prevent such an occurrence, it is important to  consider what life lessons he/she has been taught from a holistic perspective. Addressing the very issues of personal and social responsibility concerning the students plagiarism is something that should  rightly exist within the individuals basic infrastructure as an ethical human being; perhaps, however, social integrity is not something the student places at the forefront of his or her character.  Ethics, keen moral judgment and personal responsibility must work in tandem or it is likely the absence of these characteristics are lacking in other areas of the students life,
