happen without at least a good fight. Militia groups have long been at the forefront of controversy in their indignation toward government and their strong-arm tactics. These ordinary  citizens believe that the entire country -- and even the world -- is being deceived by the very bureaucracy that it is supposed to protect. They staunchly support the  idea of running headlong into the bureaucratic problem, wheeling firearms and taking control, because they believe that is the only way that fraudulent government activity will ever be terminated.  However, while their efforts are born out of a desire to protect, militia groups have been credited with scores of violent offenses, often inappropriately representing their ultimate cause. It  is with great respect and dedication to their country that these militants work toward defending their land and its people; however, despite their underlying desire to clean up the wrongdoing,  their actions sometimes prove detrimental to their quest. "The US states should pass and enforce laws banning private militias, and the federal government should enact backup legislation, to protect  us all from unaccountable private armies. The Second Amendment protects state militias acting in the name of, and accountable to, the entire people. Private armies may act in  the public good, but there is no way other than violence to enforce this. Democracy means that differences are settled and problems resolved by public debate and discussion, not  armed force" (Dees et al A19). II. HISTORY OF MILITIA GROUPS Militia groups formed as a means by which to right the wrongs of government intervention. In their  quest to separate justice and democracy from the distorted hands of bureaucracy, such organizations were formed so that federal government did not think its unscrupulous activities were going unnoticed.
