    values seem to be more of a reality in the daily lives of Americans. Some of the traditional American values of freedom of life, religion and labor in addition to  equal rights and responsibility of others often times seem ambiguous when in reality Americans seem to place more importance on individualism, time, efficiency, materialism and action among others. Traditionally, morals  and values were reinforced through the family, the church and the educational system. Now in a time when over fifty percent of children come from households which have experienced divorce,  the teachings of the church are often in conflict with parts of the Constitution and the educational system has turned away from moral "character education", the youth of today and  in fact many of the adults as well have a difficult time defining the real values in the American society of today. Early  in February 2002, when President George W. Bush was visiting China, he wrapped up his visit with a live broadcast talking about American values. In defence of American values, Bush  stated that he would be "talking clearly about American values ... starting with freedom". During the speech he further stated that "All the worlds people, including the people of China,  should be free to choose how they live, how they worship and how they work" (McQuillan, 2002, p. 06A). This seems to be a pretty good indication of what are  considered the ideal cultural values of Americans in todays society. The U.S. Society & Values Online journal published by the U.S. Department of State further stresses the importance of the  American family as the basis of the structure of the society and how the slowly changing family structure has resulted in challenges, changing roles and responsibilities for Americans across the
