    undertaking of a study to assess the relationship between characteristics of a learning organization and leadership style relates to the discipline of human resource management and people management, with elements  which may be seen as important for strategic management. Research Outline 1. Introduction In recent decades there has been increased interest in the concept of the learning organization.  The learning organization may be defined as "an organization skilled at creating, acquiring, interpreting, transferring and retaining knowledge, and at purposefully modifying its behaviour to reflect new knowledge and insights"  (Garvin, 2000, p11). It has also been noted that there appears to be increased interest in organizational learning during difficult economic times, as firms seek to increase the value  of their human capital (Raezler, 2011, p28). The same research also found that the firms which had successfully leveraged organizational learning displayed superior results than equivalent firms that did not  embrace organizational learning. Min and Santhapparaj (2011, p211) argue that in any change, revolutionary or evolutionary, it is leadership that is a key driver, and will ultimately impact on the  outcome of that change. Therefore there does appear to be a potential link between leadership and characteristics associated with learning organizations. With increasing pressures placed on organizations and the  potential benefits that may be obtained from adopting characteristics of a learning organization there appears to be significant value in assessing the relationship between the characteristics of a learning organization  and leadership style. 2. Research Questions (Aims) The main research question is to ascertain what relationship exists between leadership styles and learning organizational characteristics. The main questions will be  1. Which leadership styles, if any, are most likely to be aligned with learning organization characteristics? 2.
