Pain Management Center is one of the several entities comprising Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, North Carolina. This paper traces Rex Healthcares history (the original Rex Hospital opened in 1894)  and how the organization grew over the years as Raleigh, the capital city, came to be known as the "Silicon Valley of the East." Three major universities in the  area - Duke University, University of North Carolina and NC State University - all lie within 30 miles of each other and feature two major medical schools between them.  Rex Pain Management Center has the benefit of a broad patient base and active, current research within its geographical reach. Using value chain, SWOT and management theory analyses, the  paper concludes with recommendations for current management and for the clinics long-term future. Introduction Rex Hospital opened near downtown Raleigh, North Carolina in  1894. The hospital built a large new facility in the mid-1970s, containing so much room for future growth that citizens of the Raleigh area wondered about managements wisdom and  planning abilities. Certainly the old hospital had been inadequate for a long while, but the new one seemed to be over the top in anticipation of need in the  future. Todays Rex Healthcare not only filled the facility long ago, it also overflowed it to spill out into outlying areas surrounding North Carolinas capital city.
