Roman Society and Etruscan Women's Behavior and Legal Status

mysterious and limited to the bedroom, much like our society today, there were others who were incredibly open with their sexuality. One of these cultures was the Etruscans. And, the  women were particularly obvious with their sexuality and their position in the Roman world. In the following paper we examine the role of the Etruscan women both legally and sexually,  and then do the same with the Roman women. Following that the paper presents a discussion of the two types of women, arguing that the Etruscan women were fare more  free than were Roman women. Etruscan women were allowed to be more free with their sexuality, they were given more privileges in their world concerning men, and generally experienced more  legal freedoms in their culture. Etruscan Women Sexuality was a very powerful and natural element of the Etruscan people. Both men and women enjoyed a freedom concerning sexuality,  and concerning gender issues in general. One author illustrates that "Sharing wives is an established Etruscan custom. Etruscan women take particular care of their bodies and exercise often, sometimes along  with the men, and sometimes by themselves" (Anonymous Legal Status in the Greek World, 2002; wlgr-greeklegal100.html). It was not considered an outrage to see an Etruscan woman naked, nor for  her to be seen naked. And, in terms of using their sexuality, "They do not share their couches with their husbands but with the other men who happen to be  present, and they propose toasts to anyone they choose. They are expert drinkers and very attractive" (Anonymous Legal Status in the Greek World, 2002; wlgr-greeklegal100.html). In further examination of  the rights of women, both legally and socially, as well as sexually, we note that the "Etruscans raise all the children that are born, without knowing who their fathers are.
