Abstract As the structure of the automotive industry is shaken in the wake of recent bailouts and organizational reconfigurations, much  about the landscape of auto development is changing. Companies such as Ford that once prided themselves on the development of fine-tuned performance vehicles with specific market categories are having to  adapt their model to incorporate a renewed focus on technological development. Other companies like Honda, once focused primarily on sales in the North America market, are now shifting their focus  to include overseas sales initiatives. Such fundamental changes to the structure of the automotive industry naturally dictate that certain strategic responses be adopted by Ford, Honda, or any company that  wishes to stay mobile and retain a competitive advantage. For instance, Ford has undertaken the strategy to move more and more of its operations in-house in order to supplement the  power of external investments and relieve stresses placed on the company by suppliers who are hurting economically. Honda for its part has had to take steps to ensure continued cash  flow in order to drive their growth initiatives, including such strategic approaches as hedging contracts and an overall cultural integration of the need for balancing costs and expenditures at the  international level. Of course, the development of alternative fuel vehicles represents one of the most major changes to happen in the automotive industry in decades, and Honda seemed uniquely poised  to capitalize upon that potential development. This paper establishes these trends via the tool of SWOT analysis, and also provides a strategic assessment for future growth. Introduction
