    who all but seems to hate her environment. But, at the same time she is a wise enough girl to know that there are elements in her home and neighborhood  which she finds dear and plans to somehow incorporate into her identity and her future. In the following paper we examine Esperanza as she goes on this journey.  Esperanza "In The House On Mango Street Esperanza reveals personal experiences through which the reader is able to determine what kind of person she is; her views on life, how  she views herself, as well as how her poverty affects her view of life, her view of her future, and how her poverty currently affects her place in the world.  The vignettes show different aspects of Esperanzas identity as it evolves and changes progressively throughout The House On Mango Street" (ClassicNotes: About The House on Mango Street). In this we  see that with each separate chapter comes a new understanding of who Esperanza is. And, in each chapter she is also searching for who she is and what she finds  valuable despite the disgusting oppression and poverty she experiences every day. These are the foundational elements of her search for a future, for she knows she will leave, but she  also knows that she cannot abandon all that she is or all that she has experienced. We watch as she confronts her strengths and weaknesses, never afraid to face the  fact she is shy or perhaps ignorant. She uses these weaknesses it seems to help her define herself and help her grow. We note that "Despite her low self-esteem she  still keeps hold of her dream of acquiring A house all my own. Esperanzas poverty acts as a physical obstacle from leaving Mango Street, but it does not prevent her
