    or she wants to hear it are the primary attractions of XM Satellite Radio for consumers. From a technological standpoint, it is the radio of the future now. Promotional material  offered by XM Radio at its website boasts that: "Get ready to do a 180: XM is about to change how you feel about radio" (Internet source). Satellite radio  does offer an entirely new concept in radio that is certain to make those listening to traditional radio wonder why they put up with all the inane banter of disc  jockeys, the constant commercials, and the repetition of other peoples favorite tunes. Not only is the concept fascinating but the technology that makes satellite radio possible is worth paying attention  to since it serves as a perfect example of innovative thinking that is outside of the (radio) box. Two companies -- XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio are  the two "big dogs" of the emergent industry and the competition between the two has involved a great measure of debate between financial and technological analysts, investors, and music companies.  They have been developing their capabilities for the past five years and there is no reason to believe that either will lessen its intense focus on establishing itself as the  "top dog." Each has its own enthusiastic proponents, as well its own unique detractors. Albiniak (2002) explains: "With Siriuss nationwide launch on July 1, the satellite-radio battle is joined. The  two companies, authorized by the FCC in 1997, will now see if Americans are ready to pay for the radio they listen to on their way to and from work"  (pp. 19). How Is It Possible?
