    opening statement that is mildly entertaining and designed toward getting the reader interested in the positions presented. As in the creative paper on descriptive elements in a romantic bedroom scene,  one would want to perhaps set the scene first, thus employing all the senses. The house smelled of Pledge and Windex. From the kitchen I heard the sounds of running  water and I knew from the condition of the carpet as I crossed it that Shea had probably spent her whole day off cleaning the house. "Sweetheart, Im home,"  I called as I walked past the kitchen entrance. Suddenly, it dawned on me. Other than the sound of water running into the kitchen sink, there was a decided lack  of giggling, tumultuous greetings and massive leg hugging which usually accompanied my return to the house. I parked my briefcase beside the entertainment center in the den, took off my  shoes and dumped my jacket in the closet, then headed through the hall toward the kitchen. I leaned into the doorway. "Hey, arent we missing a few small critters  that usually inhabit the three foot area around my feet?" I didnt hear her reply at first. Wearing a pair of gray sweat-shorts and my old Rugby Tee-shirt I was  suddenly more aware of my wife and less concerned about the kids. Nonetheless, she now stood with her yellow gloved hands on her hips, a strand of blonde hair hanging  in her face, expecting an answer to a question that I had not heard. "Ummm, they went to your moms?" I offered. Laughing she drew a hand across her  brow and stooped back over to finish the last of her mopping. I hopped up onto the counter and watched. "Whatre you looking at?" The white tee shirt was soaked
