factors. With a global economy much more is being traded via shipping. Additionally, there are other benefits such as cost considerations and environmental practicality. Also, shipping is  growing exceptionally quickly in Europe where transport by waterways save companies time and money as opposed to land transport of goods.  In terms of the future, there is little but growth ahead. Most countries are indeed already seeing the expansion and the future is predicted to include more of the  same possibly at a quicker pace that the current one. In addition, environmental and safety concerns are big topics of conversation in  terms of the future of the shipping industry. Safety is a priority and methods of reducing robbery and piracy are being studied and developed as are ways of avoiding  terrorist attacks and minimizing the damages should one occur. Many of these concerns are relevant now because they havent been dealt with in  the past. In terms of issues such as terrorism, even though the possibility was always considered, it was never as much of a realistic threat as it is now.  Now this issue demands attention especially given the global nature of shipping. Other issues also face the shipping industry such  as scrapping ships and tankers, modernization of ships and more. Many of the changes within this industry are very positive and even some of the negative aspects are as  a result of growth. There is every indication that members of this industry are working diligently to alleviate these problems and manage the growth which is already underway.
