    is the only industrialized country in the world that does not provide universal healthcare for its citizens. The term socialized medicine is used primarily in the US to broadly  describe healthcare coverage that is funded either by the government or by the public through taxation. Currently, most Americans receive healthcare coverage through employers, and while there is a  SCHIP state insurance plan to cover children through age 18 of low-income families, federal vetoes have adversely impacted this programs effectiveness in offering coverage to American citizens within this age  group. III. Point 1 a. There are more than 9 million children in the US currently without healthcare. b. The high costs of American healthcare privatization  have left Americans under the age of 18 particularly vulnerable because especially low-income families are unable to afford coverage. 1. Recent statistics indicate that the infant mortality rates, low  percentage of American child vaccinations, and an increase in untreated asthmatic conditions are due to the fact that there is not mandatory socialized medicine for this age group, as is  in place in Great Britain with its National Health Service government program. IV. Point 2 a. Enforcing a mandatory program of socialized medicine for citizens under age  18 would not in any way jeopardize the American capitalist system. b. Many capitalist nations such as Canada, Great Britain, Spain, and Finland offer universal healthcare coverage for children,  and socialism has not overtaken their democratic government structures or compromised their capitalist economies as many opponents of such a system fear. c. Within the present US system, many  children are either being denied proper treatment for chronic conditions such as asthma or are receiving delayed treatment that can result in serious consequences including death, which is in stark
