    have chosen never to marry, women choosing a single lifestyle is a new social phenomenon that is largely due to the fact that women are succeeding in all walks of  life and professions and do not need marriage in order to secure financial stability. However, when the single lifestyle is compared and contrasted with the married lifestyle, it is clear  that marriage remains the preferable choice, which is due to three fundamental facts of human nature: people are social animals who need each other; married life is the best way  to raise children and the modern marriage is based on the concept of equality. (Thesis statement). First of all, people need people. Human beings are social and form social groups.  In order to have psychological health, people need these social connections with one another. While single people form close friendships and may have emotional ties to a lover, the nature  of single life is that a relationship typically evolves toward marriage or it eventually ends and the single individual moves on to the next lover and the next relationship. Friends  marry and have their own families and their first commitment is to their families, not their friends, which means that in old age, the single individual is alone, which is  a prospect that prompts some single women to have children and raise them as a single parent. While it is certainly possible to raise a child as a single  parent, it is difficult. As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton points out in her book, It Takes A Village, in previous eras, extended family, as well as friends and neighbors,  all took responsibility for enforcing good behavior among children and adolescents and also took pleasure in loving them and watching over them.
