Indeed, the very essence of this quote speaks  to the fact that ones existence is not to be taken for granted or allowed to pass by without putting any effort behind it; rather, life is to be a  highly participatory event where risks are taken and lessons are learned. The courage one brings to life is found in the actual living aspect - the going out and  seeking understanding and enlightenment as opposed to merely wading through ones days in a blind fog of indifference. "Is courage about taking pain, or is it about dishing it  out? Is it about rushing into a fire when thats your job, or is it about doing something that falls beyond your job description? Is courage the same  for those who are brave in war and those who are brave in sickness?" (Miller PG). Courage also means having the inner  strength to accept things for what they are without feeling defeating because one is incapable of changing the unalterable, such as in the case of a life-changing incident. Indeed,  having courage in the face of hardship is one of, if not the most enlightening, empowering and important aspects of the entire purpose of life. To recognize the opportunity  to learn and grow in the face of diversity is to possess the utmost in courage, as in the case of actor Christopher Reeve. The world was stunned when  the Superman star became paralyzed and unable to breathe on his own after breaking his neck in a horse riding accident; however, after intense rehabilitation - both physically and emotionally
