    while others continue to toil long hours and get nowhere. Some contend that if one wants to succeed they will, but others say that much has to do with ones  life chances. That is, someone born into an impoverished neighborhood has fewer life chances than one who is born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Other aspects of  society are equally hard to explain, such as why some people are able to secure leadership positions rather easily, like George W. Bush, while other equally capable individuals could never  hope to be president, particularly if their skin color is not white. And then there are political questions which loom large. Can one trust leaders that are in power? Can  a charismatic president like Ronald Reagan transform a society to one that runs on money, greed and power? Or, are presidents really rational actors, because people elect them and ordinarily--at  least theoretically--the leaders will do the right thing. It is sometimes hard to explain the world, and why things are the way they are. Yet, theories and models do  help in many ways. At the same time, all theoretical approaches have limitations. Resource mobilization theory is an approach in sociology that tries to explain incidences in daily life  in respect to resources like money, time, organizational skills and so forth. Ones life chances predict how far they will go in life for example and everyone has heard the  old story that someone has not gotten very far due to the fact that they do not have the proper resources. In society today, most Harvard graduates need good grades,  and a private school career in general, but most will have the money to afford the steep tuition.
