on a regular basis. What is the answer for the transgendered community that would bring a sense of peace and security in this lifetime amidst the tenets of racial  discrimination? Is it too much to hope for that social bias begin to wane in exchange for a more understanding and open-minded world? Indeed, what continues to reside  at the foundation of todays continued intolerance is a combination of fear and ignorance, an alliance that not only precludes the chance for contemporary society to begin to accept those  who choose an alternative lifestyle but one that also encourages just the opposite. In order to even begin acquiring a sense of peace about themselves, inasmuch as the constant  verbal, physical and emotional bashing they receive often detrimentally influences how they perceive themselves, the transgendered community must overcome the stringent social barriers inherent to an intolerant society. Such  a task is not only immensely difficult in light of strong opinions, but it is highly dangerous, as well. The impact of historical  American gender assumptions and gender expectations upon Brandon Teena, the main character in 1999s film Boys Dont Cry, illustrates the perpetual cycle of racism that has permeated society for centuries.  When the student considers the extent to which Teena goes in order to live life as a male, rather than the biological female genetic composition with which she was  born, it becomes very clear how unevolved society is as a whole when it comes to people living outside the ever-stringent boundaries of social dictates.  John and Tom, bound by the same brainwashed indoctrination that supports intolerance of anything out of the ordinary, reside at the opposing end of Brandons critical circumstances.
