an investment. However, before considering an investment there are many factors that need to be examined. It is well known that the
UK supermarket sector has higher profits than other countries, there has even been a government investigation in order to access if there was price fixing, However, this has been found
not to be the case as confidence has been restored. Somerfield is not one of the dominant players. The market leader is Tesco, followed by Asda, Sainsbury and Safeway.
The company has been seen as underperforming and disappointing since the initial public offering of share in 1996 when the price that the shares were offered at had to
be cut by 25% (Europe Intelligence Wire, 2002). The underperformance may be seen in the figures when analysed. However, there is a
current trend that appear to indicate that there is a recovery taking place and the share may start to perform more positively. In looking at the performance for the last
